In 1919, Clarence D. Moore, most people just called him C.D., and his brother Ralph, hence the name Moore and Moore, opened a small general store right on main street in Portersville, PA.  The general store would be just that, a general store selling things such as groceries, hardware, appliances, clothing, feed and farming implements. It was a business venture that would last four years, as Ralph would leave the business in 1923, to go to work in a mill.

C.D., Albert, and Ralph Moore

Before the passing of his first wife C.D. had two daughters, Virginia and Jean.  In the years after the death of his wife, C.D. met  Ellen Ellefson and on June 12, 1923 they were married.  Ellen had come to the United States from Norway when she was 8 years old.  With his new bride C.D. had four children.  Louise, Frank, Sam and Charlene.

As his family grew so did his business.  In 1926, along with raising beef and hogs to later be butchered and sold in the store, Clarence started a coal mine on the family farm.  It was a deep mining operation that was in business until 1950.  In 1939 they began hauling lime with two dump trucks and using pull behind spreaders.  Then in 1949, the first truck with a spreader box was purchased and lime spreading was added to the list of services.  During these years C.D. and Ellen's children worked hard on the farm, at the mine and at the store learning various skills, traditional family values and a true sense of fairness when dealing with people.  However, after 46 years of hard work C.D. was ready to turn the business over to his oldest son Frank.  During his years of running the business C.D. had earned a reputation for being a tough man to work for.  However, he was also known to be a Godly man and was a leader in the community being a charter member of the Portersville/Prospect Rotary Club.

Frank had some big shoes to fill but was ready for the task.  In 1965 he took over from his father.
